California Wildfires Contained

The wildfires that scorched more than 42,000 acres in four southwestern California counties have now been largely contained. Hundreds of homes have been destroyed and thousands of Californians displaced. Week of Compassion is working with the Pacific Southwest region and local Disciples congregations to identify Disciples members that have been affected as well as community efforts through whom we can respond to local relief and recovery efforts. Thus far, WOC has responded to one Disciples family from First CC, Orange, CA, whose home was consumed in the fires.

Response to Dire Situation in Congo

Action by Churches Together (ACT) and Church World Service (CWS) have now issued a joint appeal to their member churches and agencies to respond to the worsening humanitarian crisis in eastern DR Congo. The fighting between government forces and rebel militias has created more than one million new refugees.
